Kurt Langer and Lisa Shimamura of Colab joined Art for Tibet Honorary and Curatorial Committee Members Richard Gere, Yodon Thonden, Robert Thurman, Shepard Fairey, Joseph Ian Henrikson of Anonymous Gallery, Jonathan Hulland, Simeon Lipman, John Peet, Tenzing Rigdol, and Sonam Zoksang for Art for Tibet 2010. For the second-annual Art for Tibet, more than 150 acclaimed artists exhibited art works in support of the Tibetan freedom struggle and persecuted artists.
Art for Tibet II was held in a 10,000 square foot storefront in Downtown New York secured in-kind by The Union Gallery. A panel event with renowned scholar Robbie Barnett on contemporary Tibetan art's significance as cultural resistance kicked off the exhibition run. The exhibition and art auction concluded with a benefit celebration featuring music and live paintings by artists Chris Mendoza and Lobsang Choephel. In addition to event and exibition production, we created a concurrent online art auction, coordinated press effort, marketing campaign, and benefit merchandise to raise both awareness and funds.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Students for a Free Tibet (SFT), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with international headquarters in New York. Through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent direct action, SFT campaigns for the Tibetan people’s fundamental right to freedom and independence.
